Winter is never quite the same from one city to another. In Lima, winter arrives with cool, humid days and soft layers. In Chicago, winter calls for warmth, protection and considered layering. At Tom Gutie, our outerwear is crafted in Peru from some of the finest natural fibers and designed for different climates, from lightweight alpaca layers to exceptionally warm Suri Alpaca coats.

Different Climates

Some winters demand another level of protection. Alpaca offers a distinctive balance of warmth, lightness and refinement, making it particularly suited to luxury outerwear.

For strong winters, Suri Alpaca offers natural insulation, luster, softness and fluid drape. Longer, enveloping silhouettes and thoughtful layering can make a significant difference when temperatures drop. For a mild winter, Baby Alpaca offers a naturally soft option, while providing warmth without compromising the lightness of the piece.

Lima
Mild Winter: Lighter alpaca coats, capes and knitwear. Effortless pieces for everyday wear and seasonal transitions.

Chicago
Strong Winter:
Exceptionally warm Suri Alpaca coats, longer silhouettes and considered layering. Calf-length coats are ideal for drier, moderately windy days, whether for dinner, casual outings or special occasions, where the lustrous finish of Suri Alpaca adds a refined touch. Versatile pieces designed for cold winters and the transitions between seasons.

Alpaca | Natural Fiber

Has long been valued in Peru for its warmth, softness and distinctive natural qualities. Baby Alpaca is known for its fine, soft fiber and lightweight warmth, while Suri Alpaca, which represents a smaller proportion of the world's alpaca population, is distinguished by its silky appearance, natural sheen and fluid drape.

These qualities allow designers to explore warmth through refined silhouettes rather than excessive weight.

The ideal coat needs to work through long days, changing temperatures and different settings, while remaining polished enough for the city. For the modern wardrobe, a luxury winter coat becomes the defining piece of the season.

The most versatile winter wardrobe is the one that understands the climate.
